Ezequiel Pagan laced an opposite-field RBI double off the LF fence in the 1st inning and an RBI single in the 3rd, Geuri Lubo drilled three singles, scored two runs, and drove-in another, Adan Sanchez singled twice and drove-in a run, and Jefferson Rojas ripped an RBI double and drew a walk, as the Cubs edged the Giants 7-6 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training Opening Day action Monday afternoon at the San Francisco Giants Papago Park Complex in Phoenix, AZ.  

The Cubs took two out of three from the Rangers to even their record at 4-4. They'll next greet the 4-6 Seattle Mariners for a three, game set at Wrigley. It wasn't a conventional game or even a "sim" game, but Kyle Hendricks faced hitters for the first time since last July. 

The "live" BP took place Friday morning on Field #6 at the Riverview Baseball Complex in Mesa, AZ.

As is usually the case with "live" BP, an actual umpire was hired by the Cubs to call balls & strikes.  

Hendricks faced three batters -- Raino Coran, Wally Soto, and Brayan Altuve -- and each of them batted twice. They did not run the bases and there were no fielders. 

Following a rainout and a scheduled off-day, the Cubs rollover their rotation and return to Wrigley. There, they'll greet the 4-2 Rangers. See below for daily matchups.

Stroman braved a cold opening day at Wrigley and walked away with a win, 8 strikeouts, and a bunch of outs on the ground over 6 innings.

Seiya Suzuki blasted a solo HR (off Brandon Hughes) over the LF bullpen and onto the berm, Ismael Mena drilled an RBI triple (also off Brandon Hughes), Yidel Diaz belted a two-run double, and SP Jackson Ferris hurled three innings of no run / no hit ball with four strikeouts (three swinging), in an Extended Spring Training intrasquad game played at Sloan Park Wednesday morning. 

The game ended in a 3-3 tie.  

Raino Coran slugged a two-run HR in the 1st inning, doubled in the 4th, and singled and scored in the 6th, Ismael Mena smacked a two-run triple and scored a run in the 6th, and SP Daniel Palencia hurled three innings of shutout ball, leading the EXST Cubs Blue Squad to a 7-5 victory over the EXST Cubs Red Squad, in Extended Spring Training intrasquad game action Tuesday morning on Field #6 at the Riverview Baseball Complex in Mesa, AZ.   

Porter Hodge and Frankie Scalzo Jr combined to hurl a shutout and strike out eleven, Anderson Suriel ripped a two-run double and an RBI triple, walked, stole a base, and scored a run, and Carlos Ramos drilled a single and a bases-clearing bases-loaded double, as the EXST Cubs Red Squad blanked the EXST Cubs Blue Squad 10-0 in Extended Spring Training intrasquad game action Monday morning on Field # 6 at the Riverview Baseball Complex in Mesa, AZ.      

The Cubs opened the 2023 regular season with a win before dropping the next two home games in a competitive series with the Milwaukee Brewers. Dansby Swanson put an uneventful Spring Training behind him, going 7-11. Ian Happ also had a hot series, reaching base 7 times and tallying the first Cubs homerun of the season. Patrick Wisdom's 2 homeruns in the Sunday loss made up most of the rest of the Cubs' offense. Cody Bellinger is still in search of his first knock as a Cub. The squad will move on to their first road series against another NL Central opponent, the Cincinnati Reds.
