Cubs (1-2) @ Braves (0-3), 4/1/2019, 6:10CST
Kyle Hendricks takes the mound for the first time in 2019.
The steady Hendricks worked on his curveball quite a bit early in Spring Training and
may be looking to diversify his repertoire. It should be both cool and humid
in Atlanta this evening—maybe good conditions to snap a few off. Few
Atlanta batters have succeeded against Hendricks, but Markakis has batted
over .400 against him.
Hendricks matches up against the much more powerful Sean Newcomb. With a
lefty on the mound, expect the Cubs to sit some lefties and for Almora to
start in the leadoff spot despite a terrible showing in the opening series.
Several Cubs batters have fared well against Newcomb in limited appearances,
with Baez, Almora, and Bryant leading the way.
Both teams look to reset after losing their opening series. If they fail to
do so, this might become a contest to determine whose bullpen is colder. We
may get to see how Edwards adjusts to the ruling on the illegal foot plant in
his retooled delivery.
