Cubs Rally Monkey Angels at Diablo

Geuri Lubo (RBI triple), Dilan Granadillo (RBI single), and Jefferson Rojas (RBI single) contributed run scoring hits to highlight a four-run 9th inning, and closer Gabriel Agrazal struck out Cristian Garcia  (swinging) with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to preserve the lead (and the victory), as the Cubs rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to score three in the 7th and four in the 9th and then held on to edge the Angels 8-7 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training game action Friday evening at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, AZ.

Angels #1 pitching prospect LHSP Ky Bush (on AA Rocket City 7-day IL - oblique strain) hurled three innings of shutout ball while the Angels were taking their early lead, ACL Angels top prospect CF Randy DeJesus ripped two triples, walked, scored a run, and drove-in another, Capri Ortiz walked, singled, stole a base, and scored two runs, and recently signed ex-Cubs catcher Tyler Payne drilled two singles, drove-in a run, threw out two baserunners attempting to steal, and picked another runner off base in his 2023 game debut, for the Angels.

This was the EXST Cubs 38th and final Cactus League Extended Spring Training game in 2023, so they definitely went out on a "high."

Thanks Phil!

Saw that you mentioned Lizardo Ruiz is in the catcher conversion program, and he seems to be hitting pretty well; does he have the potential to be a legitimate prospect?

I hope that Perlaza goes on to have a successful career.  On most Cubs teams prior to the current administration, he would have been one of their more highly ranked prospects.  As far as the others are concerned, one or more may well go on to be much better than expected, but unfortunately there is no way to tell which one at the present time.  You can't keep everyone.

Another one of the nine Cubs post-2023 Rule 9 minor league 6YFA has signed, as RHP Carlos Guzman (acquired from the Tigers for Zack McKinstry at the end of Spring Training) signed a 2024 minor league contract with the Mets.

So RHRP Yovanny Cruz (SD), C-INF P. J. Higgins (CIN), and now Carlos Guzman (NYM) have already signed 2024 minor league contracts with new MLB organizations, and OF Yonathan Perlaza is headed for Korea (Hanhwa Eagles).
