AZ PHIL:  For a doubleheader scheduled in Sept (ie, after active rosters expand), do teams still get to add a player?

Reading your roster rules, it seems like they do.

Came to mind as I was looking at the schedule (doubleheader on 9/1) & thinking about the 8/31 deadline to 40-roster a player to make them post-season eligible.

Morel gets a day off. Everyone else take one step to the left…Madrigal 3B, Candalerio 1B, Happ DH, Tauchman LF

while he's still cheap he's a nice piece, and that includes next year.  learning that he can play 3rd as well as 2nd is nice perk.

i'm just burned out on seeing him get so many starts when there's a hole at 3rd, though that's not been much of a thing since candel got here.  plus his upside is singles/doubles hitter that's got slightly above average speed on a good day.

wesn works 0.2ip...on a day where there's a few pen arms being rested.  dude hasn't pitched in a week.

andrew vasquez out on the mound sounding like my whippet snoring when he releases the ball on pitches.

this club has so much good D that when they make multiple bad D plays they somehow keep covering for each other without runners advancing.

There’s just no stopping Nicky Barrels - picture perfect line drive double to left and the Cubs regain the lead!

drama win!

cubs move into the 2nd WC slot (0.5 games ahead).

btw, the teams that matter right now for WC are PHI, SF, ARZ, CIN, MIA, and CHC.

Hell of a win. No matter how it turned out, couldn’t fault Leiter - seems like he’s pitched in every game since the all star break.

wsox have fired kenny williams and rick hahn.  wow.  that took long enough.

smyly gets dross'd... 4.2ip and gone.  7 well earned runs.  he kept pounding the zone center and low, and got pounded.

Taillon for the season sports a -0.6 bWAR, with a 1-6 W/L record and 8.01 ERA during day games. So clearly he’s due for some positive regression 😂

AZ Phil,

The ACL Cubs have an atrocious record.  The pitching and hitting stats are pathetic.  The daily box scores are barely competitive.  Is this the worst ACL Cubs team you have seen in recent memory?  Outside the 2023 draft class, is there any current talent worthy enough to follow?

Also, the DSL teams have horrendous records and stats.  The bonus babies play just enough to post weak results.   This is a tough year to follow the low minors.

Too bad for Taillon and the Cubs. Thought perhaps his season WAR would inch from -0.6 to -0.5 but not to be.

Not Phil, but aside from the draft class (which has been impressive) there are some promising position players. Manager Nick Lovullo told me early in the year that Leonel Espinoza was a player to watch and he certainly is. Alexis Hernandez isn’t spectacular but he was very steady.  Adan Sanchez  didn’t hit for a high average but he came on late and looks like a prototype catcher. The pitching staff had the same issues as last year; poor control and an inability to hold on runners. Of course some of the guys who stunk the joint out last year (e.g. Santy, Arias) did pretty well this year. The draft class certainly gave the offense a jolt of energy.

as nice as it would be to win the division, ATL and LAD are so far ahead that it looks like the NL Central is playing for a WC game playoff spot no matter who comes out on top.  the best NL Central team "wins" a chance to take on the lowest ranked WC team...

i guess with a month+ to go, LAD is still vulnerable, but it's a long shot to dethrone them.  if ATL fails that would be an epic meltdown...

ohtani ucl tear...maaaaaan...hate that.  no word on how severe.  he tore it enough for TJ back in 2018.

i hate this for ohtani and baseball and baseball history.

at least he's already got the AL MVP even if he doesn't play another game this season.

I hope that Perlaza goes on to have a successful career.  On most Cubs teams prior to the current administration, he would have been one of their more highly ranked prospects.  As far as the others are concerned, one or more may well go on to be much better than expected, but unfortunately there is no way to tell which one at the present time.  You can't keep everyone.

Another one of the nine Cubs post-2023 Rule 9 minor league 6YFA has signed, as RHP Carlos Guzman (acquired from the Tigers for Zack McKinstry at the end of Spring Training) signed a 2024 minor league contract with the Mets.

So RHRP Yovanny Cruz (SD), C-INF P. J. Higgins (CIN), and now Carlos Guzman (NYM) have already signed 2024 minor league contracts with new MLB organizations, and OF Yonathan Perlaza is headed for Korea (Hanhwa Eagles).

...and back to 3rd for another game.  at this point i'm gonna hang back and when/if he actually plays 1st then i'll find it notable.  i am glad he's playing a good amount of 3rd, though...give the club one more good look at him there.  shrug
