cool, amaya gets to play (C).  swanson still out, morel 2nd.  mancini gets 1st vs the lefty rodon.  gomes DH.

ooo look, a cubs starter with 100+ pitches in a game.  stroman, smyly, and taillon have 2 games each.  steele has 1.

Apparently that was the first win in either Yankee Stadium, in Cub franchise history, including postseason. Hard to believe!

stoked alzolay is getting the chance to be the closer with a firm commitment.  he's showing he can handle the workload on short rest.  got him around for 3 more seasons...

almost all call-ups wait a day after call-up...but not masterboney...got to get him in there ASAP...legit surprised he's not leading off (not like tauchman is any better)...at least he got a double...and an error.  welcome back.

charlie root gets the Cornerstone oldschool player profile today.  my favorite oldschool cub.

he did nothing spectacular, but he did it all (starting, closing, middle relief, long relief) for the cubs for 16 seasons.

he brute forced his way into being a cubs legend and team HOF'r.  he's the only cub with 200+ wins, and the only cubs pitcher with more than 600+ games played (and the only one with 500+ games played).

not bad for a guy who didn't start his cubs career until age 27.

3 catchers, gomes up, righty on the mound, j.young on the bench...sure, let gomes hit...whatever.

popout. game over.  guess it dont matter too much down by 3 with 1 on...meh.

votto is 16 games back...7 homers, 4 in the past 5 games.  votto trying to make the reds think twice about his 7m 2024 buyout vs 20m team option.

hendricks joins the 100 pitch outing club...by giving up a HR with it...and his day is done.

cubs going into the break and the team leader in saves is alzolay with 7.  3 of those 7 saves happened in the past 5 days.

I hope that Perlaza goes on to have a successful career.  On most Cubs teams prior to the current administration, he would have been one of their more highly ranked prospects.  As far as the others are concerned, one or more may well go on to be much better than expected, but unfortunately there is no way to tell which one at the present time.  You can't keep everyone.

    s.gray signs with the cards...3/75m

Another one of the nine Cubs post-2023 Rule 9 minor league 6YFA has signed, as RHP Carlos Guzman (acquired from the Tigers for Zack McKinstry at the end of Spring Training) signed a 2024 minor league contract with the Mets.

So RHRP Yovanny Cruz (SD), C-INF P. J. Higgins (CIN), and now Carlos Guzman (NYM) have already signed 2024 minor league contracts with new MLB organizations, and OF Yonathan Perlaza is headed for Korea (Hanhwa Eagles).

...and back to 3rd for another game.  at this point i'm gonna hang back and when/if he actually plays 1st then i'll find it notable.  i am glad he's playing a good amount of 3rd, though...give the club one more good look at him there.  shrug
