Roederer, Sanchez, and Suriel Slugging Highlights Cub Offense at Riverview

Jason Hinchman laced a two-run double in the top of the 1st inning to put the Rockies on the board 2-0, then Cole Roederer hammered an oppo-field HR over the LF fence (his second bomb in two days) to open the bottom of the 1st inning and Adan Sanchez belted a solo HR one out later (extending his hitting streak to six games and his consecutive on base streak to ten games) as the Cubs tied up the game 2-2, then Roederer walked leading off the bottom of the 5th before Sanchez drove him in with a one-out double into the LF corner to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead, but then Dayan Jorge rifled a line-drive two-out two-run single into CF with the bases loaded off Daniel Palencia to put the Rockies back in front 4-3 in the 8th, and finally Lizardo Ruiz drilled a double down the LF line leading off the bottom of the 9th and scored the tying run on a two-out line-drive triple yanked into the RF corner by Anderson Suriel, as the two teams played to a 4-4 tie in Cactus League Extended Spring Training game action Friday morning on Field #6 at the Riverview Baseball Complex in Mesa, AZ.

The game was called by mutual agreement with two outs in the bottom of the 9th after Suriel's game-tying triple.

Prior to the game, RHP Luis Devers and LHP Scott Kobos threw "live" BP on Field #5, with Alexander Canario among the batters who faced them.

AZ Phil,

Is Palenica learning a new pitch by chance?

I know he might be moving to the pen, but Jensen and Luke Little just slid over. Palencia was put on the DevelopList.

Just seems curious.

Thanks

Noticed Cassie was taken out of the game after grounding out to short in the bottom of the 1st for Tennessee............also haven't seen PCA in the lineup for Tennessee since Tuesday.......

I hope that Perlaza goes on to have a successful career.  On most Cubs teams prior to the current administration, he would have been one of their more highly ranked prospects.  As far as the others are concerned, one or more may well go on to be much better than expected, but unfortunately there is no way to tell which one at the present time.  You can't keep everyone.

Another one of the nine Cubs post-2023 Rule 9 minor league 6YFA has signed, as RHP Carlos Guzman (acquired from the Tigers for Zack McKinstry at the end of Spring Training) signed a 2024 minor league contract with the Mets.

So RHRP Yovanny Cruz (SD), C-INF P. J. Higgins (CIN), and now Carlos Guzman (NYM) have already signed 2024 minor league contracts with new MLB organizations, and OF Yonathan Perlaza is headed for Korea (Hanhwa Eagles).
